Domain Transfer without Tears

Need To Transfer A Domain? Find Out The Facts

One of the problems with domain names we come across time and time again concerns A domain transfer. A domain transfer is a request made to transfer a domain name from one register to another.

A Domain Transfer Explained

Say I register a domain name and then I decide that I don’t want it anymore and somebody contacts me and says I’ll buy it from you. I would then transfer the domain ownership to that person. That's a domain  transfer.

Here Are Some Problems That Can Happen When You Transfer Your Domain Name For one Registrar To another & When You have a Domain Name Transfered To You From Somebody else

Many domain name owners wait until just a few days before their domain name expires before requesting a domain transfer. They mistakenly think the remaining time on their domain name will be lost if they transfer earlier. The result is that the transfer often fails because the procedure can take a few days to complete. During that time the domain name expires. The losing registrar will then refuse the transfer altogether because of the universal rule that expired domains can't be transferred.

One reason domain name owners are badly informed about this is because many Registrars consider that it’s not in their interests to tell their customers about this. After all, the more failed transfers there are, the more the Registrars can rake in for another year’s fees. The Registrars are a business and they act like one. As a domain reseller, I think that’s a shortsighted attitude because it makes customers only more determined to leave their service as soon as possible.

What Really You Need To Remember About A Domain Transfer Is

When you transfer your domain, one year’s validity is added to the domain’s existing expiry date. So no time is ever lost when you transfer your domain.

An Example Of A Domain Transfer

If your domain still has 6 months to go before expiring and you transfer it now, the domain will have 18 months after the transfer completes. If you’ve decided to transfer your domain name to another register, don’t wait until the renewal time. You should transfer it right now.

One Last Exception To the Rule About Domain Transfers

With every rule their's an exception. If you recently registered or renewed your domain name, then you will have to wait for 60 days before requesting a transfer. The reason is that domain Registrars have a common rule against this. Many Registrars have been ripped off in the past by people that didn’t pay their credit card bills. The registrars then had nothing, no cash or a domain name.
